SUMMARY:Invitation: April 22 Seminar on Sustainable Byproduct Upcycling
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to join us for an upcoming seminar in the College of AgBio exploring innovative approaches to food security and sustainable resource use: \nIntegrated Systems Approach for Sustainable Byproduct Upcycling\nDr. Nurhan Turgut Dunford\nApril 22\, 3:00–4:00 PM\nAgriculture Building 2E25 \nDr. Turgut Dunford is the Fulbright Canada Research Chair in Food Security at the University of Guelph and a Professor in the Department of Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering at Oklahoma State University (OSU). Her research focuses on addressing the dual global challenge of increasing food demand and managing agro‑industrial byproducts more sustainably. \nIn this seminar\, Dr. Turgut Dunford will discuss how grain and oilseed byproducts\, often rich in proteins\, fibers\, lipids\, and bioactive compounds\, can be upcycled using green\, environmentally responsible processes. She will highlight examples from ongoing OSU research where low‑value byproducts are transformed into high‑value nutritional ingredients\, functional foods\, and industrial precursors. The presentation will demonstrate how engineering innovations can optimize nutrient recovery while reducing the environmental footprint of food production and contributing to a more circular bioeconomy. \nDr. Turgut Dunford will also share insights into the Fulbright Canada Research Chair in Food Security program and the collaborative research ecosystems at both the University of Guelph and Oklahoma State University. \nWe hope you will join us for this engaging and timely session.
