SUMMARY:SIA Saskatoon Branch is proud to partner with Meewasin Valley Authority
DESCRIPTION:The SIA Saskatoon Branch is proud to partner with Meewasin Valley Authority to bring you this branch event.\n\nWednesday June 10\, 2026\n\nNodding Thistle @ Chief Whitecap Park\n(4:30 – 6:30 PM)\n\nMeeting @ Chief Whitecap Park\n\nMeeting Point\nMeet Katie\, our Volunteer Coordinator\, at the Chief Whitecap Park. Here’s a map of our meeting point.\n\nAbout this event\nNodding Thistle is an invasive plant that at times\, can grow as high as a Christmas tree. As beautiful a flowering plant as they are\, they seed like wildfire and have got to go. Bonus it’s easy and wildly satisfying to pull them out of the ground! This volunteer event is special because you get to work alongside our resource management team\, with 20+ years’ experience working in the valley. They’ll share a ton of incredibly true facts about the area we live in while exploring one of our favorite spots on the river.\n\nTo ensure you have a great experience\, there are a few things we’d like you to know:\n\n\nYou must be registered to attend this event Register here\n\nWe will begin at 4:30 PM. and end at 6:30 PM.\nUpon arrival check in with Meewasin’s Volunteer Coordinator Katie.\nThis is an outdoor experience – Please dress for the weather and come prepared to be hiking outdoors. Things like a hat\, sweater\, windbreaker\, sunscreen\, and proper footwear will also make your experience more enjoyable. Long pants and covered ankles are a good idea in the long grass.\n\nBring a full reusable water bottle to carry with you\, there is no potable water at this event and hydration is key. Please note there are NO washroom facilities available on-site.\n\n\nVolunteer Requirements\nAll volunteers\, ages 8 and up\, both new and experienced\, are encouraged to attend\, no skills set required. We will be swinging tools shaped like golf clubs to knock the heads off of this flower – Meewasin will provide the work gloves\, protective eyewear and other equipment but feel free to bring your own tools.\n\nQuestions?\nEmail kwalls@meewasin.com or volunteer@meewasin.com or feel free to call our office Mon to Fri 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM at Tel.: 306-291-3015 or Office: 306-477-9152\n\nPlease note: This activity counts as a branch activity for articling milestones\, check lists will be signed by the SIA office. Please fill in the information and send to info@sia.sk.ca for signatures.\n\nRegister here
