Join us to learn more about applying for NSERC Discovery and Research Tools & Instruments grants, and tips for success!
We cordially invite you to attend the 2026 NSERC Discovery Grant and Research Tools & Instruments Grant Spring Info Session hosted by OVPR. This two-part event will cover a range of topics salient to DG and RTI applications. You are welcome to register for one or both DG and RTI parts (below).
After part 2, please join us across the road at the GSA Commons for a hot buffet lunch where we hope that discussion will continue and links forged. You will be asked to register for the luncheon along with one or both sessions.
Part 1: Applying for a Research Tools & Instruments (RTI) grant
10am – 10.50am
· Timothy Kelly (Chemistry), a member of the National Review Committee for Chemistry (RTI), will share his experience and advice on applying for a RTI grant, followed by the opportunity for Q&A.
Part 2: Applying for a Discovery Grant (DG) (also relevant for RTI)
11am – 12.30pm
- Notice of Intent, with Q&A
- Merit Indicators Overview
- Explaining your Significant Contributions effectively
- Capturing your training of Highly Qualified Personnel thoughtfully (HQP)
- Speaking to Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI) authentically
- Utilising the Internal Review service offered by OVPR
- Guidance from NSERC National Evaluation Group members on submitting a successful DG application, with Q&A.
