Speaker: Dr Dan Pennock, Professor Emeritus, Department of Soil Science, College of Agriculture and Bioresources, University of Saskatchewan.
Description: There is a tremendous amount of variability in the soils along the South Saskatchewan River bank due to the relative influences of parent material, groundwater, microclimate, and vegetation. The tour will consist of approximately seven soil pits. At each of the soil pits Dr. Pennock will describe the dominant soil forming factors and assist with the classification of the soils in accordance to the Canadian System of Soil Classification.
